DOLA Joins Denver's Fifth Annual PJ Day!

So, on Thursday, January 28, wear PJ's to work!  Ok.  More explanation needed, eh?

For the past 5 years, PJ Day has been Denver's day to help end homelessness.  The idea is that you can show your support and raise awareness by wearinig PJs to work and by visiting participating restaurants and business that are donating a portion of sales to Denver's Road Home.

This is the first year that the Department of Local Affairs will be pitching in and we've got a morning of activities planned.  First off, we should probably address what we mean by "wear your PJs to work".  Obviously, since we are still a place of business so, you can choose what is appropriate by using two rules of thumb:

1) If you hold up your PJs before putting them on and catch yourself seriously debating whether they would be considered "appropriate" for work?  They aren't.  Put them back and pick something that would raise no questions about appropriateness...

2) If you must, consider how your Grandmother would react if she walked in with all of her friends and saw you in this public place/work environment wearing your PJs.  If the answer involves an anticipation of her disapproval or prompts images of being hit with a purse... pick something that would prompt Grandma to give you a hug for caring about raising homeless awareness in a smart and responsible way and then begin bragging to her friends about you.

Good?  (Hint... sweats, full body PJs = cool... anything "as seen on MTV" or spotted on a Eurpean beach = not cool).

Now, with that bit of necessity of the way... the DOLA EQT is planning on hosting a breakfast, starting at 8:00 am lasting until 9:30 am in room 320.  For a $5.00 contribution, you "buy" the ability to wear PJs for the day.  If you do, and be eligible for selection of "Best PJs".  For an additional $3.00, you can grab a muffin, yogurt, juice, coffee, etc.  You can also vote on who you think should win "Best PJs".  The votes are due by 9:15 am and the Best PJ parade will start at 9:30 am!!!

Remember to check back here for pics and more!

Valentine's Day Rose Drive

The EQT is planning again to sell roses/vases for the Valentine's Day holiday.  The price will be $5.00 per rose and vase arrangement and they will be avaible on February 11, starting at 9:00 a.m., at the front door/lobby of the Sherman street building.  The money will be used to apply to the Employee Quality Team efforts to support the events already being planned for the rest of the year to include BBQs, Silent Auctions, Ice Cream, Bake Sales, and the Annual DOLA EQT Ceremony.

Curiuos about what the gifts look like? Taking a look at the previous year's effort should help in deciding to join in!

Now, for many of you, these flowers are another addition to a wholistic approach towards Valentines Day that will make it convenient for you augment your already-planned efforts to remind your friends, colleagues and others how much you appreciate them and help the EQT at the same time.  For some of you, this offering will provide the last minute reminder and ability to avoid looking unintentionally inconsiderate and forgetful this holiday to your friends and loved ones.  Either way, it is a win for all!

The preferred option, both for you and for us in planning on how many to buy, is to let us know how many you arrangements you would like.  Although, this is not necessary as there will be a sale stock available if you do not reserve in advance.. but it would really help!  So, to reserve a specific number, send an email to Mona (mona.heustis@state.co.us).  Mona volunteered to wake up at a time most of us are still in pre-work comas to make sure we get fresh roses on the 11th.  Too, if you are at an off-site location, such as in Centennial, this will help ensure that we can get you some roses, too!

Now, if you are like me, in the pic above, you noticed the beautiful roses, the vases, kinda giggled at the kitty litter container... but also locked in on the two plates of cookies (top of screen, far side of the second linked table).  I do not know yet about the status of cookie availability.  I will ask my EQT colleagues about the cookies.  I will relay additional critical information about said cookies as soon as available.

If you have any questions about the rose drive, shoot an email to brandon.williams@state.co.us and I'll track down an answer!
